Holidays in the Usa – a Sports Extravaganza

June 21st, 2009
Andy Adams asked:

They say that they do everything bigger over in the good old United States of America; buildings, technology and even food (leading to bigger waistlines too). This fact can be attributed to their sports too. American sports are popular all over the world not just for the average Joe American.

Major sports such as American Football, Baseball and Basketball games are syndicated all round the world for fans to watch on TV. But nothing quite beats being there in person, cheering with the crowd, taking in the electric atmosphere. Many British holidaymakers are timing their holidays with sporting events in the States so that they can add a bit of variety to their holidays.

There’s plenty of regular season games for all the big four (Basketball, Baseball, Football and Hockey) and tickets are rather easy to get hold of, with many arenas and clubs using online booking systems such as Ticketmaster so you can get your tickets sorted early.

In other cases most hotels’ concierge services have connections to the stadiums and may be able to pull a few strings for visitors looking to make the most of their holidays.

One point to be careful of is ticket touts, yes these vultures exist stateside too, and prey upon impressionable tourists, my advice is to stay clear, it isn’t uncommon for tickets to be fakes or getting a child’s ticket instead of an adult’s one. After all you didn’t come thousands of miles to get swindled.

The main attraction of American sports is how much effort and style goes into their big events, the Football has Superbowl, a national treasure in itself. American football is as popular (possibly even more) than football, sorry, I mean soccer, is in the UK.

This is the ultimate in sporting entertainment with fireworks a plenty, pulse pounding action and the halftime shows. The halftime shows are like an arena concert unto themselves, with past performers such as Prince, Paul McCartney and the infamous Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake incident! This year Superbowl XLII is going to be taking place in Phoenix, Arizona and is in March.

The NBA basketball goes above and beyond Superbowl with not only an All-Star game but an entire weekend devoted to the festivities. Apart form the game itself showcasing the cream of it’s NBA basketball players there are other events such as a celebrity game (last year including names like The Green Mile’s Michael Clarke-Duncan and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx) and the high-flying Slam Dunk contest. Basketball is a growing sport over here in the UK and what better way to see the pros than getting to New Orleans for February the 17th.

These are just two stand out spectacles on offer, people that have gone on holidays to America and seen sporting events like these have had a great time, especially families. One activity I have done myself is visit the historic Madison Square Garden arena in New York which was due to host a boxing match between Lennox Lewis and Michael Grant in 2000, and whilst we were unlucky in trying to get tickets we were still able to get a great guided tour of the arena including trophy rooms, locker rooms and the Theatre upstairs that has hosted awards shows and events such as VH1’s Divas Live. Many arenas in the United States offer these tours normally during the day even whilst they’re setting up for events like the boxing match previously mentioned.

In general if you can get tickets good and early then you could easily add some interest and value to your holidays this year!

What is the best way to get Wrestlemania tickets-by phone, online, Ticketmaster outlet, or camp out at venue?

June 10th, 2009
angieurick asked:

I’d like to know what other people’s experiences have been when buying Wrestlemania tickets. And if the best way to get good seats is camping out at the venue, how soon should I get there to make sure I’m 1st in line? I’m going to Wrestlemania 25 in my hometown, Houston, TX, next year.

How is it legal that Ticketmaster scalps its own tickets through TicketsNow?

June 9th, 2009
Jeff asked:

Ticketmaster owns TicketsNow, and scalps their own tickets there, before they even go on sale to the public. When the events sell out, they redirect you to TicketsNow, which has the tickets for up to 10X face value. How exactly is this legal/permitted?

How to Get Concert Tickets You Know are Going to Sell Out

June 7th, 2009
Weerac Kunti asked:

When concert tickets for some top artists go on sale, they sell within a matter of minutes. So this leaves you with a problem: if you know that your favorite artist will be going on tour, and you absolutely don’t want to miss the concert in your area, how can you ensure that you manage to get tickets? You know that the tickets will most likely sell out really quickly, but you don’t want to be one of the disappointed ones. So, I have put together a few tips that will maximize your chances of getting those highly sought after tickets.

First of all, you need to get signed up to the relevant fan club or mailing list for your favorite artist or band. Members get sent frequent updates about the band’s activities and tours, and many fan clubs allow members to buy concert tickets before the tickets officially go on sale. Some of the clubs use presale passwords, that allow members to purchase tickets in advance from the usual websites, such as Ticketmaster. If you love the band so much that you intend going to every concert in your area, then joining a fan club and getting this concession of early sales is a must. Watch out though, as there are most likely more fans in the club than tickets available for presale.

Of course you could just try buying the tickets when they go on sale to the general public, but you have to go for it the minute they come out on sale. With a bit of research you can find out exactly when, to the minute, that they are going on sale, but make sure that you have the right time zone. Go to the website some minutes before the release time, and keep reloading the page. As soon as the tickets are available the link will appear that will take you to the page where you can buy them. Select the number of tickets that you want, and, if the tickets are available, you will be offered seat numbers. If the seat numbers don’t suit you, you can release the tickets back, and try again for better seats, but think twice about doing this, as you may lose the chance altogether due to the high level of demand. If the seat selection that you are offered seems reasonable enough, then take them to avoid missing out altogether.

So what if the show sells out and you are still without tickets? Well, you still have one or two options available, but now you are talking higher ticket prices, because it is a seller’s market. The prices of the tickets will be determined by the age-old economic rules of supply and demand, with the more popular concerts commanding very high ticket prices. Ticket brokers usually manage to have a reasonable number of tickets in the highly sought after areas such as front rows, and the center of the auditorium. Many ticket brokers actually have their available seats displayed online, so that you can browse for where you would like to sit. You may get good seats with the brokers, but they will most likely come at a price.

So, by continuing searching and not giving up, you may well come across those concert tickets that you are after.

Finally At&t Get’s Ready for Bold

June 1st, 2009
Dam Smith asked:

The Bold has been launched successfully in Canada in August itself and has also been launched in countries in Europe and Asia. The announcement regarding the U.S launch was made by RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie.

The delay in the launch in the U.S of the BlackBerry Bold could be due to the testing of the device with the carrier.

However this delay has caused increased pressure on the RIM shares which was at a high in June and which went down since then. The shares have just shown a revival last week.

The BlackBerry Bold is a major product upgrade for RIM. Last week the company launched its first fold-up or flip-phone named the BlackBerry Pearl Flip and also a push-to-talk version of its BlackBerry Curve.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip is expected to be a grand success owing to its flip phone design which is not available in many smartphones. In spite of the flip design, Pearl Flip’s design allows for the requisite number of keys in a smartphone besides providing two high-resolution screens.

There is more in store for BlackBerry admirers in the form of a touch-screen version which the company is working on at present. This will reach markets later this year. RIM is going through a “concentrated product launch” period, catering to the strong demand felt for smartphone devices.

RIM will be promoting its BlackBerry device highlighting a more media centric design than as a device suited for only corporate messaging capabilities which made the BlackBerry a popular business tool earlier.

BlackBerry’s latest offerings will be sweet music to users. RIM announced partnerships with social networking site MySpace and Ticketmaster besides announcing an agreement with Internet radio provider Slacker Inc.

This includes Slacker music service which allows users to personalize their tunes. The agreement with TiVo will allow users to manage television recordings while traveling. Users can also create MySpace Mobile service thanks to its pact with MySpace.

Looks like BlackBerry is aiming at offering more services to catch up with the demands of consumers besides beating the endemic competition in the industry.

How do you buy tickets for good seats on Ticketmaster?

June 1st, 2009
SHERINA asked:

I am looking to purchase two tickets for a comedy show in February. The tickets do not go on sale until 10 AM on December 1st. The price for the tickets is listed as $47.50. Is this on a first-come-first-serve basis so I can get great seats for $47.50? Or, is there an unlisted price for the better seats? Any answers will be appreciated, thanks!
