Having worked at ticket agencies for the past 18 years and owing Golden Circle Tickets for the past 12 years, I’ve seen it all. Back in the 80’s all the way through early 2006, Ticketmaster made it their mission to bad mouth any ticket resellers, labeled them as “scalpers” and demonized anyone involved in or around the selling of tickets as a commodity.
They even worked and funded lobbyists to further their cause by having several states outlaw the reselling of tickets. Ask Ticketmaster what their stance is today on buying and selling tickets in the aftermarket an you will get a whole new song and dance. In yearly January of 2008 Ticketmaster announce it’s purchase of TicketNow a ticket agency involved in the business of buying and selling tickets for $275 million dollars. Take a look at who they are backing in legislation and you will find that they now strongly are in support of this new marketplace.
Basically when convenient ward off the competition at any expense to promote ones self and when it becomes clear on how profitable the secondary ticket market actual is then jump on the bandwagon and sing along. What pisses me off is the high moral ground ticketmaster decided to take in making the selling of tickets “unethical” and portraying ticket resellers as greedy vulchers who take advantage of “real fans” It just goes to show you that in corporate American anything goes.
